For the green sauce: On a griddle over medium heat, roast onion, garlic, tomatillos, and serrano chiles on both sides for about 10 minutes until brown. Set aside.
Transfer roasted ingredients to a blender, add cilantro and chicken broth and blend until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
In a saucepan over medium heat, heat oil. Pour green sauce into the saucepan and cook for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add fava beans and cooked chicken. Cook for 15 minutes over low heat and adjust seasoning. Serve chicken & fava beans in green sauce hot.
