  • In a bowl with water and ice cubes, add shredded potatoes. Let sit for 1 hour and drain. In a pot over medium heat, heat water, corn syrup, and sugar. Bring to a boil. Add shredded potatoes and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until tender. Remove from heat and pat-dry potatoes with a cotton cheesecloth until completely dry. On a baking sheet, arrange potatoes.
  • In a bowl, mix shredded potatoes, cornstarch, rice flour, wheat flour, and salt. Mix. Add onion powder and egg. Mix until completely incorporated. Grab a portion of potato purée and form a ball the size of a ping-pong ball. Using your hands, shape the potato ball into an oval. Repeat until all the ingredients are used up. Set aside.
  • In a small pot over medium heat, heat olive oil. Fry potato ovals for 6 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked on the inside. Drain copycat McDonald’s hash browns on a paper towel-lined plate. Set aside.
  • Serve copycat McDonald’s hash browns with BBQ sauce.
