Classic Mexican Buñuelos

A staple Mexican dessert like no other, these buñuelos are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! Prepared by frying a light dough until perfectly crisp and light, these classic Mexican buñuelos are then sprinkled with cinnamon sugar for a sweet treat that is best served with coffee.

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • canola oil, extra, for frying

  • In a large bowl, whisk eggs and ¼ cup of sugar until they turn thick and bright yellow.
  • Add 1 cup of oil. In another bowl, mix 1 ½ cup of flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add mixed dry ingredientos to the egg and sugar mixture little by little and mix thoroughly.
  • Place dough on a previously floured surface and add the remaining ½ cup of flour. Knead thoroughly until smooth.
  • Divide dough into 16 balls. Roll out each dough ball with a rolling pin to 4.7-inch discs.
  • Place on parchment paper and let rest uncovered for 10 minutes.
  • In a saucepan, heat oil until it reaches 347 °F.
  • Fry raw buñuelos until golden brown flipping just once.
  • Drain classic Mexican buñuelos on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Sprinkle classic Mexican buñuelos with cinnamon sugar. Store classic Mexican buñuelos on an airtight container.
