  • 5 cups water
  • 1 piloncillo, cut into chunks
  • 1/4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 Mexican chocolate tablets
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups masa dough
  • 1/4 cinnamon sticks, for garnish

  • In a pot, heat water over low heat. Add piloncillo, chocolate tablets, and cinnamon stick. Cook for 10 minutes until piloncillo and chocolate tablets dissolve.
  • In a blender, combine masa dough and water and blend until smooth for 5 minutes or until perfectly dissolved. Set aside.
  • Pour blended mixture into the pot and mix with a wooden spoon. Stir constantly until smooth. Cook for 10 minutes or until a thick consistency is obtained. Remove authentic champurrado from heat and set aside.
  • Serve authentic champurrado in a clay mug garnished with a cinnamon stick.
