Refreshing Tamarind Michelada

In Mexico, micheladas are popular beer-based drinks made with lime juice, chile powder, and a variety of seasoning sauces that make up a refreshing and slightly spicy cocktail served in a glass or mug with a salted rim. Micheladas have infinite variations, but they are always delicious and this sweet and tangy tamarind michelada is no exception!

  • 1/4 cups chile powder, for the rim
  • 1 tablespoon sugar, for the rim
  • some tamarind syrup, for the rim
  • 1/4 cups tamarind syrup
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoons Maggi seasoning
  • 1 bottle lager beer
  • some jicama, for garnish
  • gummies, tamarind, for garnish
  • some chamoy, for garnish

  • Mix chile powder and sugar on a plate. Wet the rim of a beer mug with tamarind syrup and dip in chile and sugar mixture.
  • Pour tamarind syrup on the rimmed mug. Add orange juice, lime juice, and Maggi seasoning sauce. Mix and add beer. Garnish with jicama, tamarind gummies, and chamoy.
