Traditional Champurrado

Traditional champurrado is a hot Mexican beverage with an intense chocolate flavor that is sweetened with piloncillo and thickened with masa dough, a creamy and cozy drink that is a must for cold weather.

  • 1 cup masa dough
  • 1 cup water, for blending the masa dough
  • 2 liters water
  • 2 piloncillos
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 tablets Mexican chocolate
  • 1 cup masa dough

  • Combine masa dough and water in a blender and blend for 5 minutes until smooth. Set aside.
  • In a pot, add water, piloncillo, and cinnamon and bring to a boil. Cook until piloncillo dissolves.
  • Add chocolate and let dissolve.
  • Add blended masa dough. Cook until masa dough is cooked through and a thick consistency is obtained.
  • Serve traditional champurrado hot with pan dulce on the side.
