Passover Charoset

One of the most symbolic foods eaten at the Passover Seder, charoset is a sweet and dark paste made with different fruits and nuts that represents the mortar used by the Israelites to build the pyramids. A traditional Pesach dish, this Passover charoset is prepared with apples, dates, raisins, pecans, and kosher wine. Served with matzo, this Passover charoset is a quick and easy recipe that is a must for your seder plate.

  • 1 liter water
  • 1/2 cups pitted dates, cut into halves
  • 1/4 cups raisins
  • 2 red apples
  • 1/2 cups lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon wine, kosher
  • 1/4 cups pecans, finely chopped
  • matzo, for serving

  • In a bowl with water, soak dates and raisins for 2 hours and strain.
  • On a chopping board, peel and cut apples into small-sized cubes.
  • In a pot with water, place apples, lime juice, and orange juice and cook for about 30 minutes. Add dates and raisins and cook until a purée consistency is obtained. Let cool.
  • Place previous preparation in a bowl and mix with kosher wine and pecans. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Spread Passover charoset on a matzo cracker and top with shredded coconut if desired.
