Authentic Sweet Tamales

  • 1 kilo corn masa flour, for the tamales
  • 450 grams lard
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 150 grams raisins
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 1/2 cups anise
  • 1/2 cups cow's milk
  • 1 bunch corn husks
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt

  • In a pot, add anise and half a cup of water and bring to a boil. Strain. Combine previous mixture, flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and milk. Mix until a tamal dough is obtained.
  • In another bowl, mix lard until fluffy and white. Add tamal dough, condensed milk, and a bit of milk.
  • The tamal dough will be ready once a small tamal dough ball dropped in a cup of water floats.
  • Spread a bit of tamal dough on each previously rehydrated and drained corn husk.
  • Fill authentic sweet tamales with raisins. Arrange authentic sweet tamales in a steamer and cook for 1 hour or until the tamal dough comes off the corn husks once opened.
