Ground Beef Wellington

Beef Wellington is a traditional English centerpiece for the holiday season. This classic steak dish is a total showstopper that will certainly delight your guests and this recipe is ideal if you are on a budget! This ground beef Wellington is prepared with a mix of ground beef, prunes, bacon, cashews, and spices that are wrapped in puff pastry for an irresistible and elegant dish that is just as tasty as the original recipe!

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cups onion
  • 2 tablespoons garlic
  • 1 cup celery
  • 2 cups bacon, chopped
  • 800 grams ground meat
  • 2 cups cashews, chopped
  • 1 cup parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 500 grams puff pastry
  • 1 cup prunes, cut into strips
  • 4 slices Manchego cheese
  • some egg, for brushing
  • some mashed potatoes, for serving
  • some rosemary, for garnish

  • In a skillet over medium heat, fry butter, onion, garlic, celery, and bacon for 8 minutes.
  • In a container, combine ground beef, cashews, parsley, breadcrumbs, bacon mixture, egg, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  • Roll out puff pastry. Place meat mixture at the center, add prunes and Manchego cheese, and top with meat mixure. Shape into a roll and cut the corners of the dough diagonally as shown in the video. Seal with egg wash.
  • Roll out another portion of puff pastry. Cut strips for the branches and leaves with a knife, as shown in the video.
  • Brush roll with egg wash. Arrange branches and leaves.
  • Bake at 302 °F for 35 minutes. Let rest for 10 minutes. Cut and serve ground beef Wellington with mashed potatoes.
