Mexican Buñuelos

This delicious buñuelos recipe is perfect for those with a sweet tooth! Coated with sugar and cinnamon, these Mexican buñuelos are crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and they are delicious either for a dessert or as a late afternoon snack!

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 500 milliliters vegetable oil
  • lime zest
  • 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 cup cow's milk

  • For the buñuelos dough: Mix flour and baking powder. Sift to avoid any lumps. Add vanilla essence and egg.
  • Add ½ cup of milk and mix until perfectly incorporated. Add remaining milk and mix to a liquid and smooth dough.
  • In a pot, heat oil to 356 ºF and add lime zest. Remove lime zest before frying buñuelos.
  • Using a spoon, immerse a dough ball to the hot oil. Fry for 3 minutes or until golden-brown. Repeat with remaining dough.
  • Place buñuelos on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  • Sift sugar and cinnamon on top of Mexican buñuelos.
