Portions
  • 1/4 watermelons, unpeeled
  • 1/4 pineapples, sliced into 0.1-inch-thick slices
  • 3 manila mangoes
  • 6 cups tamarind candies, Pulparindos
  • some chile powder, sweetened
  • some chamoy
  • some orange, lime, and cucumber, for garnish
Preparation
25 mins
Easy
  • On a chopping board, cut watermelon into slices. Cut watermelon slices into halves. Cut previous slices into triangles. Set aside.
  • Peel pineapple slices. Set aside.
  • Peel Manila mangoes with a paring knife. Set aside.
  • Stack tamarind candies forming a star of sorts. Fold the ends of the tamarind candies toward the center to form a ball. Using a tortilla press, flatten tamarind ball into a 0.1-inch-thick disc. For a larger disc, flatten it with a rolling pin. Each tamarind disc must be 0.1-inch larger than the fruit you will wrap.
  • Wrap fruits with tamarind discs. Wrap with 2 tamarind discs if needed. The tamarind discs must be slightly larger than the fruit they will cover to keep the coating from falling apart because of the fruits’ natural juice. Insert a popsicle stick on one side of each tamarind-wrapped fruit.
  • Coat spicy fruit pops with sweetened chile powder and drizzle with chamoy.
