  • 1 chicken breast, for the chicken broth
  • 3 liters water, for the chicken broth
  • 1/4 onions, for the chicken broth
  • 2 cloves garlic, for the chicken broth
  • 1/4 bunches fresh cilantro, for the chicken broth

  • 2 tablespoons lard, for the chicken broth, for frying
  • 3 tomatoes, seeded, cut into medium-sized cubes
  • 1/2 onions, cut into small-sized cubes
  • 2 güero chiles, or Xcat-ic chiles, cut into medium-sized cubes
  • 1 pinch cumin, toasted, ground
  • 1 clove, toasted, ground
  • 1 teaspoon oregano, toasted, ground
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup lime, Yucatecan, cut into wheels
  • 1 cup tortillas, fried, cut into strips

  • In a pot, add ingredients for the soup. Cover and cook for 35 minutes. Season.
  • Remove chicken breast and shred finely. Set broth aside.
  • In a small pot, add lard and fry tomato, chicken, onion, and Xcat-ic chiles. Pour broth into the pot and add spices. Season with salt and pepper and bring to a boil. Add lemon wheels some minutes before soup comes to a boil to keep it from turning bitter.
  • Serve traditional sopa de lima with shredded chicken and garnish with fried tortilla strips.
