  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon lard
  • 1/2 cups water

  • In a bowl, combine salt, flour, baking powder, and lard and mix until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add water to mixture and mix until a dough is formed.
  • If necessary, add one teaspoon of water at a time until a smooth dough is formed.
  • Cover with a wet cloth and let rest for 15 minutes.
  • Divide dough into 12 balls. On a floured surface, roll out dough balls with a rolling pin.
  • Make tortillas of about 7 inches in diameter.
  • Cook tortillas on a griddle over high heat until tortillas get brown spots. Don’t grease the griddle.
  • Cover easy homemade flour tortillas with a cloth to keep them warm until ready to serve.
